Accommodation Services at UTAS

Regardless of where you come from: interstate, overseas or rural Tasmania, and which course you are studying, the University of Tasmania (which includes the Australian Maritime College) has accommodation that will suit you. Accommodation is more than bricks and mortar: it's an experience of a lifetime, so it's important you get it right!

Launceston accommodation options include traditional college-style accommodation and shared self-contained units. All accommodation options are set in tranquil, spacious gardens and provide easy access to all on-campus facilities. Accommodation is close enough to classes to enable you to prepare your lunch or retrieve your books between classes. If you don't fancy cooking for yourself Saltz Restaurant Café is located centrally to on-campus accommodation: taking from two to seven minutes' walk from the nearest and furthest accommodation. The café is open from 8:00am to 4:00pm, seven days a week.

From the Launceston campus, it's an easy 10 minute walk to the Mowbray shopping centre, where you will find the supermarket, banks and post office.

Accommodation Services also offers a Off-Campus Housing service which provides an alternative way to renting properties at UTAS through an on-line listing. The listing covers a wide range of types of accommodation catering to most needs and budgets.

Launceston Church Grammar School Boarding House

The Launceston Church Grammar School has a Boarding House, which is located at the Mowbray Campus and accommodates students from Grades 5 to 12.

The food at Grammar is provided by a professional catering company. The menu is monitored constantly to ensure nutritional value and balance. Boarders usually have a choice of three hot dishes for dinner and a salad bar is available for all lunches and dinners. During the term there are also a number of formal dinners which boarders are required to attend.

The Boarding Fee includes all 21 meals during the week and weekend. In addition morning tea, afternoon tea and supper is provided from Monday to Friday and on some weekends. Fruit and hot and cold drinks are available at any time. All dietary needs are catered for.

An important element in boarding at Grammar is the support which is available to boarders. This support goes beyond out of school hours and includes academic support.

As boarders are living away from home the responsibility of “in loco parentis” is an important one. A considerable effort is put into helping a boarder to maximise their potential in all aspects of their school life. The support that boarders also receive from their friends, peers and older students is a hallmark of boarding at Grammar.
