I'm studying a Masters of Architecture at the Inveresk campus of the University of Tasmania.
Where are you from?
I'm from Toyohashi which is in the province of Aichi in Japan.
Why did you choose Launceston?
I liked the idea of Tasmania as I enjoy bush walking. I didn't know a lot about Launceston, just that the course I wanted to study was based there.
Where do you live?
I’m sharing a house with a friend from Chile.
Where do you hang out?
I enjoy the cafes scene. My favourite cafes are Café Culture, Stillwater and Fresh. I spend a lot of time at the Gorge and the Seaport area. In fact it is a beautiful walk to and from these locations.
Where do you love to eat?
Generally I eat in the dining room at our house with my housemate or close friends. Our dining room has a lovely view of the Tamar River. I usually don’t go out to eat, but I do love to go out to have a cup of coffee.
What do you like to do in Launceston?
Walking around with my sketchbook, sitting down at beautiful places, watching people and drawing what I see. So far, I have never felt bored drawing the sceneries and people of Launceston, as I always find something interesting, beautiful or surprising. So much fun!
What do you know now that you didn’t know before you arrived?
When I arrived in Launceston I was surprised how the city looked. I didn’t know that there are a lot of cute heritage buildings painted in pretty colours. I had imagined wild nature and animals and before I came.
Where is your future headed?
I haven’t decided yet. I hope I’ll be able to live in Australia a few more years, somewhere where there are friendly people and beautiful scenery.
If your last day on earth were to be spent in Launceston, what would you do?
I would like to spend my time the same as my usual weekend; walking around with my sketchbook, having coffee at cafés, and drawing.
